These additional fields will require close coordination with the company’s CEO as well as our technical staff and customers to ensure that we are communicating our goals, initiatives, and products clearly and dynamically. This requires constant education and work across disciplines and media.

Since 2008, I have supported the Science Cheerleaders (http://sciencecheerleader.com), a group of NFL, NBA, and collegiate cheerleaders pursuing careers or degrees in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM). I handle event logistics, press releases, operational plans, budgets, internal communications, recruiting, and outreach materials, 90% remotely. In addition to scheduling Science Cheerleaders to lead citizen science activities, such as Project MERCCURI which sent microbes to the International Space Station, I also coordinate the Cheerleaders’ performance at the USA Science & Engineering Festival (http://www.usasciencefestival.org/). We led 1,278 youth cheerleaders in the World’s Largest Science Cheer, making it into the Guinness Book of World Records. I also maintain the organizational database.

As part of the Office of Strategic Analysis & Communication, I wrote communication/outreach plans; white papers for NASA Headquarters and Congress; executive speeches; technical articles; social networking site content; executive talking points; strategic messages; and education/outreach collateral (including internet and intranet sites, informational videos, fact sheets, and brochures). I also analyzed and recommended strategic message content and execution processes.

As Conference Chairman for the successful 2011 International Space Development Conference (ISDC), which hosted 857 attendees, over 20 exhibitors, a job fair, and a tornado-relief charity auction—all in the midst of budgetary uncertainties, program cancellations, and a tornado outbreak. Previously, as an NSS volunteer I wrote marketing and public affairs materials, including: lobbying and public interest presentations, position papers, Web content, book reviews, advertisements, convention promotion materials, brochures, and letter-writing campaigns. Participated in congressional lobbying efforts in 2004 and 2005. Wrote position papers and press releases as Chairman of the Policy Formulation Subcommittee 2007-2010.
